Yellow

I run the streets here.

I did not run them at home.

My former home.

.

In the early morning.

The people walking lights aren’t

working.

In the day too,

but I don’t notice then.

.

When there is no

white light person

saying I should cross,

I wait for the yellow,

when the cars here

begin to paralyze.

.

I cross at yellow

in a sprint

or when it is green

and me,

and the cars,

are going the same direction in unison.

.

I am not a car,

but I wear yellow bracelets,

like lights on a bug,

to paralyze

those who might

want to hit me.

.

At home,

my former home,

yellow meant speed,

hurry,

don’t be last.

Drive faster!

.

But here,

things are moving

at a slower,

more forgiving,

pace.
