Rotted Leaf

Jaded.

It reminds me of jade

green, like the leaves

I see in the dark puddles

beside me.

.

Really,

they’re mostly just

shadows.

Some are fresh,

but most are

rotting

or

only

outlines.

.

It’s better not to look

too deeply,

I don’t want to risk

a zombie apocalypse.

.

~

.

Why don’t I want a zombie apocalypse,

even if I am just

a zombie?

.

Zombies

do not die

clean deaths.

.

Zombies are festooned

with damage

that would kill them immediately

if brought back to life.

.

~

.

There are those

who, long after,

try to resurrect

the rotted plant matter

and outlines

when the nostalgia

hits.

.

Nice idea,

but resurrection

is an imperfect at.

.

They don’t understand (or remember) how

a harsh fall

from the mother tree-

a severance-

the scars of remembrance-

led to my outline

being

hollow.

.

There is no heart left to beat.

And

I do not want to be

someone else’s zombie.
