Trust Fall

I stand under a single spotlight,

unmoving.

All the other spotlights

have been put out.

The shadows

are dark as the gaping maws

of the crowding wolves

howling at their

beloved moon.

I am not she.

.

There used to be others,

my spotlight was bigger,

but it has since dwindled

and I stand alone

without the wooden crutches

of my former

cardboard cut-out friends.

.

Were they really cut-outs?

I don’t know,

but after a while,

they all seemed to become

caricatures.

Caricatures,

can’t have sincerity,

so I stole their spotlights,

for myself.

.

I stand under a single spotlight,

unmoving.

All the other spotlights

have been put out.

If I fall,

there is no one to catch me.

I’m falling

My own shadow

is getting closer and closer,

reaching towards me,

will she catch me?
