Desert Dress of Betrayal

Her patchwork dress

is filled with a collage of memories

that aren’t mine.

To me,

they look like a window

into a desert

that attempts to be

blazing hot

with a forgotten underside

of frozen night.

A dull moon

hangs in the sky

above the sands

colored like that fabled coat of Joseph.

The little wildflowers

dotted like seams in the landscape,

convince me this world isn’t dead.

A venomous snake

hides under a scrub brush.

What is it waiting for?

The prince has landed

in a world much different from his own

and just like he does not fully understand

the workings of this world

as do I

not understand the workings

of the one in the twirling dress.

She invites me

to an unwanted picnic

by the very hole

Joseph was betrayed in.

The food

seems empty and untrustworthy.

If I eat it,

will I survive?

At human touch

it disintegrates into sand

and goes back to the desert

from whence it came

Did you develop this web site yourself? Please reply back as I’m attempting to
create my own website and would like to find out where you got this from
or what the theme is called. Kudos!
