Attempted Remora (That Looks Physically Like A Shark)

Sometimes

I feel

like an attempted remora.

.

Latching onto people,

trying to join in

on their fun,

trying to join in

on their anything.

 .

I want to be a part of.

When I got to tag along

with those people

in the fun of their daily lives,

as part of a group project

I felt real.

.

Like a real girl,

not like a wooden doll

sitting in a closet

peeking out a crack,

trying to imitate what is seen.

.

What they take for granted,

what they see as fun,

is exotic for me.

.

~

.

But as an attempted remora,

I also see the sharks in action;

their fun and games

don’t live up to those definitions for me.

.

I feel like a tourist

in a strange new world;

I don’t properly understand the customs.

.

~

.

The internet

takes for granted,

that I know these shark “facts of life”.

.

People take for granted

that I’ve done these things

and as such have the background to understand

why these people

act the ways they do

and can help other would-be

remora

swim with the pack.

.

But

I

don’t

and

I

cannot.
