Text vs. Reality

A cloud of texts

flies over my head

like a

thick swarm

of passenger pigeons

blocking out the sun.

.

The people below and I

begin to stir

in a frenzy.

.

We start discussing

the racing times

that our pigeons

have said they’ve had

and the activities

we plan to do with our

pigeons.

~

But passenger pigeons

are extinct,

so after each pigeon lands,

they morph into

their human forms.

.

A human is as different

from a passenger pigeon

as a person over text is

from a person in bloody flesh.

~

Some people find that their humans

have feathers in the hair

and a partiality to grains,

others find

their humans

completely lacking

in avian characteristics;

uninterested in the activities planned

to excite their passenger pigeon selves.
