After the Dragons Turned to Bone

I tried

To walk backwards in time

Back to a place

I once left

I returned soon after leaving

Tail between legs

When I failed to find

A new spot to settle

But what I was fleeing from

Had ravished the land

Only bare bones

Were left

The bones

Chattered and complained;

Once they had been

Full-grown flesh dragons

Full of magic and wonder

But now

They were blown apart

By a wicked reality

When I had seen them disintegrating

I had started to flee

And had felt bad

For leaving them in such a state

In their time of need

I failed them

Because there was nothing I could do

So I let them rot

And felt remorse after the deed was done
