Mirror Bird

Bird with metallic wings

High in the sky

Above the dead sand below

.

Each feather

A mirror

Reflecting the sun

Over time

Burning

The life away

.

The bird flies

Too close to the sun

Blazing hot

Its mirrors fall

Shattering silver

Against golden sand

.

On the shattered stone

Eons pass

Bright blue on the ground

Broken sky dreams

A mirage

  1. Loved the last stanza – but would have liked ‘shattered silver’ and ‘shattering’ not to have appeared so close together in one poem? Even ‘ scattered silver’, instead, could have given a little variation, perhaps?
