The Red Blossom

On the woody bark

A single blossom grew

It pushed out its petals

In red edges

And a gold center

It sat

On the bark

Quite contented

With the praise

That was given

As people passed

It grew haughty

And in its little way

It tired

Of being stuck

To the ugly bark

On which it

Was the only beauty

The wind blew

It heard the blossom’s plea

Caught in its ears

And it yanked

The blossom came spiraling down

Pretty in the wind

For but a minute

It landed

In the soft mud

Dark and brown

It stained the flower

And the blossom wished

It still sat on the tree
