The Red Blossom

On the woody bark

A single blossom grew

It pushed out its petals

In red edges

And a gold center

.

It sat

On the bark

Quite contented

With the praise

That was given

As people passed

.

It grew haughty

And in its little way

It tired

Of being stuck

To the ugly bark

On which it

Was the only beauty

.

The wind blew

It heard the blossom’s plea

Caught in its ears

And it yanked

The blossom came spiraling down

Pretty in the wind

For but a minute

.

It landed

In the soft mud

Dark and brown

It stained the flower

And the blossom wished

It still sat on the tree
