Suburb In the Eyes of a Teen

The black road

Leads down neat paths

With houses

All lined in rows

All orderly-like

Nice and tidy

.

They all look the same

Except when the owners

Have changed the color

Or neighbors are feuding

And moving each-others

Plants and trashcans

Throwing dirt

On their side of the curb

.

Children

Once played

Five years ago

On the streets

Now inside

With their electricity

And video games

.

Every season

Never changes

Except on the tree

Where the leaves

With sticky sap

Descend each autumn

Floating down the

Eternally sunny sky

.

Kids

Try to act tough

And cute

As cars

Rumble silently by

On streets

Where the lone cyclist

Rides up to the lone pedestrian

Who doesn’t answer his greeting

Too involved

With his gadget
