The Golden Cage

She drew them to her

With words

Words were her chains

Of shiny gold

That tied her

To her friends

The longer she spoke

The more they would be

But being

Tied in gold

Wasn’t bad

She held them

Out of danger

She cared for them

Drawing them to her

Or going to them

When they were sick

It was

A pretty golden cage

Where the jailor

Was the best friend

But she was

A jailor

She smothered them

Tied them down

And was emotional

When they tried to leave

But the pure gold

Was soft

And they broke free

They ran

Without turning back

Not understanding

That the golden chains

Was her way

Of expressing affection,

She didn’t know

Another way

To gain friends
