Don’t Abandon

Readying the bag

Stepping out

Onto the dust path

A tugging

Clothes

Being pulled

.

Turning round

Staring

Into

The wide brown eyes

Of a child

.

The liquid pools

Keen

And drip

They stare

And burn

“Please don’t leave.”

Spoken

A whisper

.

Soft white flower

Bends in the wind

Asking

Not to be left

Among the brown grass

Its yellow core

Stares and burns

Mouth opens

Promising

Never to leave it
