Real Unicorn

It was
A real pony
Her mother gave her
With jewel encrusted feet
And a pearl horn
At life-size
It galloped through the house
Frolicking
In imaginary meadows
With a princess of paper crown
 .
It was like this
Seemingly forever
Until
The fantasy
Stopped
Like a ended song
And the little girl
Realized
Her unicorn
Was not
Made of real
Flesh and blood
 .
Once this happened
It fell from the clouds
Forever
With feathers
Of its happiness
Drifting away
On the sad wind
That tomorrow brought
As the girl
Grew up without magic
 .
When she had a daughter
She remembered
Her unicorn
And bought
A life-size one
Pegasus style
From the store
Telling stories
Of its rainbow
In the hope that like
Pegasus
Her statue
Would breath life
