Diamond Paved

Just after the rain of a hard day
The water glistens
On the slickened cobbles
Inviting a viewer
To think of diamond paved roads
The viewer
Steps on
In anticipation
And slips and slides
The sun still glistens however
On the wet stones
As the walker
Tries his hand
And stiffens posture
As he walks
The cobbles
Dry into a demure grey
Looking for all the world
As doves alighting
He soars on their wings
That at least
On this
Road once paved with diamond
He has found
A greener stem
Of grass
