Diamond Paved

Just after the rain of a hard day
The water glistens
On the slickened cobbles
Inviting a viewer
To think of diamond paved roads
 .
The viewer
Steps on
In anticipation
And slips and slides
 .
The sun still glistens however
On the wet stones
As the walker
Tries his hand
And stiffens posture
 .
As he walks
The cobbles
Dry into a demure grey
Looking for all the world
As doves alighting
 .
He soars on their wings
Content
That at least
On this
Road once paved with diamond
He has found
A greener stem
Of grass
